Ornamental fish farming promotion
Contact phone : 9497031280
Kerala Aqua Ventures International Ltd (KAVIL), a public-private partnership headed by the State Government to promote ornamental fishery, has formally begun exports of ornamental fishes.
The first consignment comprising around 4,000 pet fishes in 15 cartons was airlifted to Paris from Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery on Monday morning.
Trade enquiries
The State Fisheries Minister and Vice-Chairman of KAVIL, Mr S. Sarma, said that besides France, the company had received trade enquiries from China and Hong Kong.
The aim is to capture about 10 per cent of the $ 7 billion market for ornamental fishes within the next seven years, he said, adding that the company had also plans to set up import hubs in New York and China as part of streamlining the supply chain.
Homestead farms
Plans are also afoot to develop about 10,000 homestead farms on which the State Government will give a subsidy of Rs 50,000 per farm.
The construction of six out of the 12 proposed export hubs with facilities for the pre-export conditioning of the fish and packing for export transportation is nearing completion, he said.
KAVIL also incorporates fish producers from West Bengal and Tamil Nadu and has set up both homestead and satellite farms in these States.

The new face of Varapuzha
I took the edappally route to Varapuzha recently, and it was quite exciting to see the new wide road connecting Varapuzha to Edappaly. It hardly takes 10 minutes to reach the railway gate from Varapuzha. I presume that this is just the taste of things to come in the future. Once the railway gate is done (i has to happen, there is no other way), it just takes 15 minutes drive from Varapuzha to Edappally bypass junction where Lulu is constructing the Asia's biggest supermarket. In a nutshell, Edappally-Cheranellore road will become the extension of edappally bypass. Adding to this, the container terminal road is intersecting this road at the Varapuzha bridge. Once this is done, those who want to go to Ernakulam can take this route, and will reach the destination in no time. I am talking about projects nearing completion, not futuristic projects.
Investment advise
Those who own property in this area, do not sell it now. If you can hold on to it for a while, you can sell it at double the going rate now. If you are planning to invest in Ernakulam, VArapuzha area is the best as of now, as it is on the verge of rapid development based on easy connectivity to Kochi, Alwaye and N.Parur.
